A Population Estimate was made on April 1, 1884 by the Superintendent of Public Instruction. One interesting note is that Marshall County is not included. The reason being that it was still a part of Day County at this time. It also is a "Dakota" estimate since Dakota was still a Territory and had not been broken into two states.
